Cut List:

  • Light: Cut 8- 2 1/2″ Square (E)
  • Mid: Cut 1- 4 1/4″ Square (B)Cut
  • Contrast: Cut 2- 4″ Square (C)
  • Bright:
    • Cut 1- 3 1/2″ Square (A)
    • Cut 8- 2″ Square (D)
  • Background:
    • Cut 1- 7 1/4″ Square (F)
    • Cut 4- 3 1/2″ Square (G)

Economy Block/Center of Block

Use A, B, and C to make an Economy Block. Cut B in half twice diagonally, going corner to corner. Use them as round 1 to frame A. Trim to 4 1/2″.

Cut C in half once diagonally, going corner to corner. Use them as round 2 to frame A/B square.

Trim Economy Block to 6 1/2″.

Star Legs

Cut E in half once diagonally and use resulting triangles with D to form a bicolor triangle.

Make 8 of these, trimming off the dog ears and creating a straight line along the long side of the triangle.

Cut F in half twice diagonally, going corner to corner. You should have 4 triangle F.

Attach 2 star legs to each side of triangle F creating a rectangle.

Trim to 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. Make 4.

Build Your Block

Let’s start by laying out your block.

The Economy Block will be in the center, framed by the Star Legs.

Place G as the corners of the blocks.

Sew rows together. Press top and bottom rows toward Corner Units and middle row toward the Economy Block.

Sew top and bottom rows to the center row and press toward the top and bottom rows.

Trim to 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″.

Change Up the Colors

I forgot to make a change to the colors or layout of this block when I did the second color way, so it’s set up the exact same way as the other one.

Cut List:

  • Green: Cut 8- 2 1/2″ Square (E)
  • Orange: Cut 1- 4 1/4″ Square (B)
  • Blue: Cut 2- 4″ Square (C)
  • Purple:
    • Cut 1- 3 1/2″ Square (A)
    • Cut 8- 2″ Square (D)
  • Background:
    • Cut 1- 7 1/4″ Square (F)
    • Cut 4- 3 1/2″ Square (G)


Follow the same instructions above, the pieces are all lettered the same, and you will get this beautiful block.
