Last Blocks: Blooming Quilt by a Quilting Life

Hello Friends!

I have another quilt to share with youl This one is by Sherri McConnell of a Quilting Life. I love their fabric, and so it was time to actually do one of her patterns.

First we need to start with some beautiful fabric and I used the fabric this quilt pattern was released with: Delightfully Yours by Sherri & Chelsi.

Tip Time

In my video I put out of this quilt, I gave several tips, but I wanted to include on specifically here.

In this quilt pattern, we used strip piecing. What this entails is putting together strips from the honeybun and then chopping them into smaller pieces.

This is nice because you’re sewing long strips together instead of lots of short ones. The key to strip piecing is making sure that you get your strip sets straight. If you can, use a straight edge to line them up on as you iron them. This makes it a lot easier to cut, nice square blocks from the strip sets.

Second tip would be how the quilt is laid out and put together. The blocks are on point, so instead of doing horizontal rows, your rows run diagonal. Each row is slightly longer than the last one, until you hit a corner of the quilt.

The key to sewing these together is making sure you pin your seams and nest them nice and pretty. Also, be careful of the biased fabric. Those setting triangles on the end of each row can stretch weirdly. So don’t stretch them too much.

When you have the top put together, before you start on the borders, make sure your quilt is trimmed and squared up nicely so it’s not stretching in one direction or the other. This will help you be able to put the borders on straighter.

Thoughts

This was a fun and quick pattern. You could totally make it scrappy, if you wanted to use up your scraps.

I probably put this pattern together in less than 2 days, so if you want a quick quilt, this is a good one.

The pattern is well written and easy to follow.
