Today we’re tackling a quilt block very similar to last week. It’s just laid out differently.
Heart Block

Cut List
- 6- 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ patterned fabric
- 4- 3″ x 3″ patterned fabric
- 4- 3″ x 3″ background fabric
- 2- 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ background fabric
Take the 3″ square background fabric and draw a diagonal line on each one. Lay each square on top of the 3″ square patterned fabric, right sides together.

Sew 1/4″ down each side of the line. Cut down the line.

Press toward dark fabric and trim to 2 1/2″ square.
Lay out your block (See layout below.):
- Row 1: 4- 2 1/2″ Half Square Triangles
- Row 2: 4- 2 1/2″ Pattern Squares
- Row 3: 1- 2 1/2″ Half Square Triangle, 2- 2 1/2″ Pattern Squares, 1- 2 1/2″ Half Square Triangle
- Row 4: 1- 2 1/2″ Background Square, 2- 2 1/2″ Half Square Triangles, 1- 2 1/2″ Background Square

Sew each row together, pressing towards opposite directions.
Then sew the rows together and press.
Trim to 8 1/2″ square.

I finished this block by putting a 1 1/2″ border all the way around.

At this point I turned it into a quilt sandwich and quilted it. This was the first time I free-motioned something and I’m not sure I like how it turned out. But, oh well, practice makes perfect.

Alright, it’s your turn. Go make yourself a heart…
