Jacob’s Ladder Quilt

Welcome back, it’s time to start a new quilt. The beautiful block above is what we’re working on. (And isn’t my model just cute???)

We’re going to be take a layer cake and yardage to put it all together to form this beautiful quilt block.

Jacob’s Ladder Quilt

Above is a printable pdf of what you’ll need and what to expect each week. We’ll be using 8-at-a-time half-square triangles and making 4-patches.

Material List

  • Layer Cake or 42 – 10″ x 10″ Squares
  • Background: 42 – 10″ x 10″ Squares or 3 yds
  • Binding: 3/4 yd
  • Backing: 5 yds


If you want to follow along, there will be 4 videos over on YouTube.

  • Week 1: Take 27 – 10″ squares of print and background fabric to create 8 at a time HST (You will need a total of 216 HST.)
  • Week 2: Cut 10″ squares into 8 HST. Press open and trim to 4 1/2″
  • Week 3: Take 15 – 10″ Squares to create 4-patches, trim to 4 1/2″ (You will need a total of 108 4-patches.)
  • Week 4: Put your blocks together: 6 – HST and 3 – 4-Patches. 4 Blocks are put together to create the star. Quilt is laid out in a 3 x 3 star pattern.
