posted in: Quilt Pattern, Quilting | 0

Hello friends, welcome back! It’s time for another free quilt pattern! This one is fun, and I’m convinced you are going to love it!

Fabric Requirements

  • 24-10″ squares or 95- 5″ squares
  • 2 yds background fabric
  • 1/2 yd binding fabric

If you are using 10″ squares, start by cutting them into 4- 5″ squares. From there, you will need the following:

Cut List:

  • 80- 5″ x 5″ squares (A)
  • 12- 5″ x 5″ squares
    • Cut into 24- 2.5″ x 5″ (B)
  • 3- 5″ x 5″ squares
    • Cut into 9- 2.5″ x 2.5″ (C)

Background Cut List:

  • Cut 8- 5″ x wof
    • Subcut into 64- 5″ squares (D)
  • Cut 3- 5″ x wof
    • Subcut into 48- 5″ x 2.5″ (E)
  • Cut 6- 2 1/2″ x wof (F)

9-Patch

The first thing we’re going to do is make some really large 9-patches.

You will need 5- A and 4-D.

Please them as shown in a 3×3 layout. Sew each row together and press towards A.

Then sew the rows together pressing towards the top and bottom rows.

Block should measure 14″ square.

Make 16.

Sashing

Next we will make the sashing.

Take 2-E and 1-B and sew E on each side of B on the short side. Press towards B.

Strip should measure 14″ x 2.5″.

Make 20.

Picnic Quilt

Lay your quilt out in a 4 x 4 pattern.

Place sashing in between each block and then C between the sashing pieces.

Sew the rows together, press the block rows towards the 9-patch blocks and the sashing rows toward C.

Sew the rows together.

Finish it up by taking F and placing a final border. You will need 2- 60 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ to sew on to the sides. Press towards F.

Then 2- 64 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ to sew onto the top and bottom, press towards F. Give your quilt a good press before sending it off to your long arm quilter.

Finished size: 64 1/2″ x 64 1/2″.

Finishing Your Quilt

Pick out your quilt back and batting and either quilt on your home machine or send it to the long-arm quilter.

Bind your quilt and the snuggle underneath it!
